Naica Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico
I was shown these amazing photographs a couple of years ago. At the time I thought they were a hoax and created on 'Paintshop' or a similar programme.

In July 2009 I saw a television programme on satellite TV that showed these stunning crystals.

They are selenite crystals, some as large as 11 metres in length and weighing up to 55 tons. Buried a thousand feet (300 meters) below Naica mountain in the Chihuahuan Desert, the cave was discovered by two miners excavating a new tunnel for the Industrias Peñoles company in 2000.

Bursting Bubble

This amazing sequence of pictures was taken by Richard Heeks.

The pictures appeared in the Daily Mail on 13th July 2009.

Richard Heeks spent weeks capturing
his images of the bursting of a bubble:
This is how it begins.

A tiny prod with a fingertip and the
delicate surface of the bubble is broken

After being poked the surface of the bubble
breaks up, from one side to another, turning
its surface into a multitude of droplets
which appear to hang in the air

As the droplets begin to fall away only
a small part of the bubble's surface is left intact

Within the blink of an eye, what was once a splendid bubble is now nothing but
a fine mist falling to the floor

Fire Rainbow

This picture was sent to me in December 2008. But I have since discovered it was taken in June 2006 and was first published in the National Geographical Magazine.

This is a 'Fire Rainbow' - the rarest of all naturally occurring atmospheric phenomena.

The picture was taken on the Idaho / Washington Border, USA. The event lasted about one hour.

Clouds have to be cirrus, at least 20,000 feet in the
air, with just the right amount of ice crystals and the
sun has to hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees.
